Diamonds Are Forever: Diamond Dash Turns One

Today marks the one year anniversary of Diamond Dash on Facebook! Wooga’s 5th game launched on March 15th 2011 and has since gone on to excite players from all over the world with it’s addictive 60 second gem rush gameplay. The mobile version for iOS went live last December, enabling players to compete with their friends across multiple platforms via Facebook Connect. So far Diamond Dash has been played by almost 50 million players, making it the most successful social arcade game ever.

Diamond Dash receives 300 million visits per month, and with weekly updates to the game being constantly implemented there’s always something new to experience for returning players. With 54 updates having been put live already, from small fixes to big features like implementing the new Magic Powers, they constantly help to provide a great user experience for all.

Wooga’s efforts have not gone unnoticed though, as Diamond Dash is nominated in the upcoming German Computer Game Award’s “Best Browser Game 2011” category.

The excitement level has reached a fever pitch. Throughout the Wooga office there are bags packed, people huddled about, and the words “GDC” and “San Francisco” can be frequently be heard amongst the hustle and bustle.  The Game Developers Conference kicks off in San Francisco next week, and there’s a huge flock of Woogas attending!

The Game Developers Conference (GDC) is the largest annual gathering of video game developers and takes place from 5th – 9th March in the Moscone Center. 27 Woogas in total are attending, and looking forward to the many adventures to be had in the city by the Bay. Already wearing flowers in their hair, not even strikes at German airports will hold them back!

Another Mate, Mate?

Wooga’s office has witnessed a passionate debate over the last days about how to actually pronounce Berlin’s Startup ambrosia, Club Mate. A note left on the company’s fridge told employees that it was actually pronounced “mate” [meyt] and not “mate” [ˈmaːtə].

The anonymous note started an interesting offline-thread on the company’s Club Mate-fridge, citing various sources from online encyclopedias to Ron Burgundy, San Diego’s famous news anchor, who urged employees to “agree to disagree”. Read more »

185% User Growth in 2011 – Berlin Start Up #3 on Facebook

●  Berlin-based game developer grew active user base to 40m and becomes number 3 on Facebook

●  Company will hire 100 additional employees in 2012 and will focus on mobile development

San Francisco, USA – February 8, 2012 – In 2011, Wooga saw its user base grow by 185% – surging from 14 million in January 2011 to over 40 million users currently playing Wooga’s games every month. New games Diamond Dash and Magic Land launched on Facebook, with synchronized mobile versions following shortly after that enabled players players to connect across platforms, and in turn brought Wooga’s total to six Flash and two mobile games.

Gitta Blatt joins Wooga as Head of Human Resources

Starting December 1st, Gitta Blatt will take on the position of Head of Human Resources at Wooga, the world’s third largest developer of social games.

She will immediately take over the management of the Human Resources Department of the Berlin-based company and focus first and foremost on personnel development and the recruitment of new employees. Wooga currently hires two new employees per week – the company plans to grow to 250 employees by the end of 2012.
