Bringing Wooga’s Gaymers Night Back to Life
At Wooga, not only do we talk the talk when it comes to Diversity and Inclusion.
We actually walk that talk because we believe in not only celebrating our LGBTQI+ community, but we also believe that empowering makes our organization better.
Among our many initiatives is the Gaymers’ Night, a Wooga tradition before the COVID-19 pandemic forced our doors shut.
Finally this year a group of amazing and dedicated Woogas decided it was time to bring the tradition back to life. And so in February 2023, we once again opened our doors in our BACKFABRIK office to Gaymers all over Berlin–and beyond.
Gaymers’ Night is not simply a fun evening to play some games and make new friends. (Although that’s certainly a bonus point!).
Gaymers’ night is first and foremost to foster and grow a safe community of diverse gamers. We want to be able to provide a kind and inclusive haven for people to be their authentic selves, with others who share the same values and life experience.
The Gaymers’ Night used to be a quarterly event, but in this new iteration we decided to scale it down to a biannual gathering in order to better prepare and make the events more meaningful for everyone involved.
During this event, more than 100 people between Woogas and external guests joined us to celebrate the amazing LGBTQIA+ gaming community.
For Gaymers Night we transform our office kitchen into a space filled with video games consoles, television sets, and board games. Meanwhile we serve delicious snacks and overflowing drinks to our guests.
It’s the perfect space and atmosphere for people to get to know each other, network, and of course have an amazing time playing video games.
At these events, we also set up a recruiting booth, where our guests could grab some rainbow merch, learn about jobs at Wooga, but also receive advice on their Career and their CV from our Talent Acquisition team.
At Wooga we welcome, celebrate and empower a diverse community, because we believe that this is how we become the best version of ourselves.
Around 16% of players belong to the LGBTQ+ community. That’s why representation matters, and for this reason not only do we build games that portray a diverse set of characters, but we also tell meaningful stories.
Gaymers Night is one of the many initiatives we have at Wooga, and we are not stopping there. As true allies and champions of the LGBTQI community, we are actively working on ways to engage with the community and make the world a better place.
