Root To Rise Fundraiser helps planting 115,222 trees

Wooga’s global reach into homes across the world means we have a responsibility to our planet. Our mission to become a more sustainable company started two years ago with company-wide changes, both big and small, that help the environment.

This year, we’ve put our money where our mouth is and created the Root to Rise Fundraiser in partnership with the non-profit organization TreeSisters. Thanks to overwhelming support from our players, this campaign has raised $57,000 and helped plant 115,522 trees worldwide.

In honor of Earth Day, Wooga launched the fundraising campaign through Facebook, asking our June’s Journey and Pearl’s Peril players to help raise $15,000 for TreeSisters. On top of this target, Wooga committed an additional $25,000 to the cause. And, to thank everyone for their generosity, we gifted players a brand-new tree decoration in both June’s Journey and Pearl’s Peril.

WHY TREESISTERS?

TreeSisters is a non-profit organization that funds a diverse portfolio of tropical reforestation projects that are ethical, community-led, expand natural forest cover, and aim to avoid further deforestation.

Their projects support local communities, improve livelihoods, protect critically endangered species, and focus on gender parity and the participation of women. It was a perfect match for Wooga’s efforts to become more sustainable, as well as a fit for our strong female characters in our game.

THE CAMPAIGN

Throughout the campaign, we did our part in spotlighting the importance of trees and forests, and we asked our Detectives and Adventurers to donate in aid of TreeSisters. Players have been able to follow the progress of the donations on each of the games’ Facebook pages with two symbolic trees that grew stronger and taller each day.

As the days passed and the campaign received more donations, Pearl’s Peril “Earth’s Splendor” and June’s Journey’s “Earth’s Elegance” went from saplings into full-grown trees. When we reached the donation goal, those trees were gifted to all players to be planted on their islands.

We had an incredible amount of messages from players telling us that they loved growing trees for their virtual islands and that by doing so, they were also helping plant new trees in the real world!

THE RESULTS

Based on our previous experiences, this year, we had established a goal of $15.000 in donations to be reached over four days and our players outdid themselves! Within five hours, players had donated already the $15.000 we had set as a target, and we overachieved the goal, ending at $32,000 from players. As promised, Wooga donated an additional $25.000. We are very thankful for our amazing community and proud of the part we’ve played together in raising awareness. We hope you enjoyed this fundraiser as much as we did.
